Microsoft clarifies H.264 video-codec royalty debate: "In the aftermath of Apple CEO Steve Job's attack on Adobe Flash, Microsoft's quiet announcement that Internet Explorer 9 would support only the H.264 codec for HTML5 video got a lot of probably unexpected attention. One of the biggest criticisms was that Microsoft receives royalties from MPEG LA, the organization that controls the intellectual property rights for H.264."
